Purpose Lady

Talk about an identity crisis.

In the last week, yes, in one week, I was called a coach (I do not have a certificate), a photographer (which I do have a certificate for, but have not been practicing for 20 years), and a teacher (again, no certificate).

To be fair, there is a little bit of all of those in me, but there has never been a title on a drop-down menu that clearly describes what I do. Then out of the blue, just like Brené Brown experienced in the supermarket after her TED talk on vulnerability, “Hey, your Vulnerability, Ted!” I was called out at my daughter's volleyball tournament, “Hey, you're The Purpose Lady”. Like Brené, I resisted and was a bit embarrassed at first because of the titles' so-called lack of “professionalism,” but I can not deny, and I’m sure Brené can’t either, that this is what we and all purpose-driven people hope for: to become a personification of what we believe.

So what do I do for a living? I’m The Purpose Lady. I am the lady who teaches about purpose, facilitates workshops to help people clarify their purpose and understand how it works to maintain thier well-being and the well-being of others. And yes, I sometimes even take pictures to complete my mission to help as many people as I can have a Personal Statement of Purpose. Why? Because I believe if we can all realize our purpose, that innate cause we authentically (many times unknowingly) fight for, the world will be a better place.

To see Brené Brown in action as Vulnerability Ted, here is her infamous TED Talk.‍ ‍
