Toxicity in the workplace robs people of the opportunity to earn fulfillment.
Someone told me at an event that corporations like to maintain a toxic environment. Ten minutes later, a breath of toxicity swept through the room.
When we have a clear understanding of our own purpose and how it works to earn us fulfillment, there is a heightened self-awareness within us when we see others realizing their purpose, an awareness to step aside and just let them do the work to earn their moment of pure fulfillment.
The organizer of the event was working hard to keep herself aligned with her purpose as she beautifully, in her own authentic way, described what she and her team had created and how it could benefit everyone in the room, an impressively large group of very like-minded people that they had worked hard to bring together to sell their services to.
During her remarks, this woman graciously invited a few of her supporters up to acknowledge them, and as she was nearing the end, one of those supporters violated the invitation to stand together for her by interrupting and using the stage for his own personal gain, selling his services disguised as support for her hard work, ultimately stealing her moment to earn pure, uncontaminated fulfillment.
Did she feel blindsided? Is he aware of his actions? I have no idea, but when I look at the workplace through the lens of purpose, it is these microaggressions that can contaminate moments of pure fulfillment, a key ingredient to our well-being, especially in the workplace.
